BB HAIR EXTENSIONS

The world of hair extensions can be a daunting place - there are several different methods of bonding the extension to your hair and each one feels a little different and fulfils a different role. Here's a description of the hair extension methods we specialise in and when they might be the right choice for you.

Which type of hair extensions will suit your needs?

Keratin Bond extensions

Long keratin bond extensions adding volume to a client

Pre-bonded hair extensions are still a firm favourite with stylists all over the world. They are easy to apply and the keratin tips provide a secure hold that is hard to beat with other methods.

Keratin Bond Extensions are clusters of hair connected by a strip of keratin wax that we bond to a section of your hair by fusing it with a little heat clamp

They are completeely safe and easy to remove - using a solution to break the bond down without damaging your hair. A hugely popular method which requires special care in the maintenance - namely avoiding too much heat at the bond and not using too much conditioner or oils hear your roots.

They can last between 3 -4 months.

Micro-loop & nano ring extensions

Microloop or Nanoring hair extensions refer to the method of using tiny clamps to hold extension hair into place. Microloop hair extensions can use small beads, rings, copper tubes or 'links.'

The locked extensions are created by looping strands of natural hair through a small, bendable bead, clamp or ring. Strands of the extension hair are then pulled through the tiny ring. When the clamp is pressed closed with an extension clamp, which resembles a pair of pliers, it securely locks the hair in place.

To remove this type of hair extension, you clamp the ring the other way so it is open again. These extensions last bewteen 3-4 months.

A hugely popular system  because they are damage free as there is no glue, no heat, no tape and no sewing.

These are probably the best option if you want to be able to dye your extensions, and use lots of products or heat-styling appliances.

weft/weave extensions

Hair weave or hair weft extensions

Track Weave, Nano Weave and Micro Weave are all types of weft extensions and are ideal for coarse, curly or thick hair that’s able to handle them.

Traditional weaves are applied by being sewn into a tightly-braided section of the client’s own, natural hair. On each row of a plait, two or three maybe four wefts of hair are sewn into the plait using thick cotton to ensure it stays secure. This is probably the best method if you want real thickness to your hair but it is also requires the most up keep as you'll need to come in every few weeks to have the braids tightened.

We like to use the hair weft method - which is a weft of hair, like a weave, attached to a track of micro or nano loops which we attach all in a row. The result lies flatter and the application is quicker than doing individual hair clusters.

Tape extensions

Tape extensions are connected by wide bonds that look a little like two bits of sellotape.  We use Barclay Wolf 100% Remy Human Hair.

They are connected by wide bonds that look like two bits of Sellotape. Your own hair is placed between them and they are clamped around the strands.

The taped sections can be a couple of inches wide or cut into sections, so they are really quick and easy to apply with minimal damage to your hair - the hair is also reusable!

This option is not best for thin hair or anyone who swims often.

clip in extensions

Clip in hair extensions perfect for a special event

This method is a non-invasive and temporary way of adding extensions to your natural hair.

Clip-in hair extensions come as wefts of hair that are pre-attached with snap-like hair clips. The wefts of extension hair simply fasten to the natural hair using the clips.

We recommend that you backcomb your hair at the roots before applying the clip-in extension. These extensions can be applied and removed as required.

FAQ

Are human hair extensions suitable for everyone?

Hair extensions are a cosmetic procedure and they should be applied to healthy hair. Hair must be at least 5 - 8 cms in length to provide comfortable attachments. There are some medical conditions that may make a minority of clients unsuitable for extensions, which is why we offer a free, no obligation consultation. At this stage the client's suitability can be ascertained and the salon can be confident they can produce a high quality result.

Are human hair extensions better, and why?

At The BB Hair Collective we only use 100% human hair because it behaves like your own real hair. Human extensions are better because they create a more natural look and effect. This means our extensions can be styled using heated tools and straighteners. They are also suitable for most lifestyle activities. So there really are no limits to what you can do!

Will hair extensions damage the clients' own hair?

No. If hair extensions are attached by a professionally trained stylist and they are properly maintained by the clients, all of our systems of extensions will not damage your hair as long as they are looked after properly. Our hair is 100% natural and the bond (kertin wax/microloop) has been formulated using a special blend of polymers that replicate the molecular structure of keratin. Keratin is a protein from which natural hair is made so if your extensions are maintained in the recommended way, no problems should occur.

How should I look after my hair extensions when they're in?

Aftercare guidelines differ depending on the method of application. Simply follow the guidelines set out on your consultation form and the advice explained to you in detail by your trained stylist.

Are hair extensions expensive?

We will offer you a full consultation to discuss your hairstyle requirements. Only then will we be able to give you a price for your new look and this can be tailored to suit your budget. Our hair extensions can last up to 4 months with the correct maintenance and care.

How long does it take for hair extensions to be applied?

This depends on how many extensions you are having and the application system being used. For example a half head on medium to fine hair 2 - 3 hours including a cut & style. A full head can take maximum up to 5 hours depending on the thickness of your hair.

Are hair extensions difficult to style?

Because our extensions are 100% human hair they can be treated in just the same way as your own hair -straighten, curl, perm and even colour . However, we do recommend using our Hair Extension aftercare range of products to help keep the hair in tip top condition.

Do I have to get a full head of hair extensions?

You can have as many extensions as you need to achieve the look you want - even a few simple strands can make a huge difference. Either a splash of colour or add a little more volume. The possibilities are endless...

How do the extensions get removed?

You need to book a removal appointment with your salon who will use the specially formulated removal gel for Keratin Wax or the clamp we used to intall the Micro Ring extensions. When applied this gel gently breaks down the bond and with the removal tool, the extensionist is able to slide the bond down your own hair with no damage to your own hair. We also recommend you book in to remove tape extensions. We have a special solution tha breaks down the stickiness of the tape so we can remove them safely.

What will my hair be like when I remove the extensions?

Your hair will be completely undamaged by the extensions and look a little longer than you remember. It may feel strange and lightweight after having had extensions in. Once you have experienced hair extensions, we are sure you will not be able to live without out them!
